The Electronic Document and Records Management System will make information more widely available to the public.
Last week the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) donated over $300,000 to the Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) project.
The EDRMS primarily includes e-document authoring, online handling and approval, exchange, filing and archive sub-systems.
The archiving component of the system will improve government's internal and external communication efficiency, and reduce the risk of critical information loss.
Minister for the Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Sen. Hon. Dr. James Fletcher, said the new system will also make information more widely available to the public.
“At some point in the near future we will go to parliament with the freedom of information bill, that will enshrine in legislation those bits of information that members of the public should have access to."
During the brief cheque presentation ceremony, Dr. Fletcher expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for its contribution to the development of Saint Lucia’s ICT sector.
“On a trip to the south, to inaugurate a water project, I stopped off in Micoud and Vieux-Fort where your government is helping with the construction of two community access centres, and I was very pleased with the progress," Dr. Fletcher said. "Saint Lucians, particularly the ones who reside in those communities will be very proud and very pleased with what the collaboration between our governments has brought forth with those two community access centres.”
